I Have Nothing to Wear...

One of the first questions that clients ask after booking a photoshoot is, “what should I wear?”. Hopefully this blog post will help to give you an answer.

For newborns and children up to 12 months old my studio is fully equipped with wraps, hats, headbands and nappy covers that are there for you to take your pick from. If you do have something specific or sentimental that you want baby to wear, simply bring it along with you on the day of your photoshoot. This hopefully makes life quite a bit easier for you.

Now, let’s get down to what I suggestions I can offer for older children and adults.  First and foremost, I advise that you wear something comfortable. By this I mean something that fits well so that you don’t have to worry about buttons popping open or straps that keep falling down (we’ve all been there!). It’s also good to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Feeling self-conscious will mean that you won’t relax and enjoy your experience as much as you could and should.

I have put together a list of what I recommend and what to avoid when choosing your outfits. If you are planning to have photos taken as a couple or group, aim to co-ordinate styles and colour tones to get the best overall look for your photos.

What I recommend:

·        Darker clothing is flattering for most people who need a little confidence boost.

·        Light coloured clothing, not necessarily white, is best if you want airy looking images.

·        Keep hair and make-up simple (you don’t want your photos to look outdated when fashions change).

·        Bring spare outfits to change into in case of staining or to give yourself options on the day of your photoshoot.

What to avoid:

The following items can divert attention away from the person actually wearing them. You want to be the main focus in photos and not your clothing.

·        Vivid colours

·        Excessive accessories.

·        Prints

·        Patterns

·        Logos (if these are small enough they can be removed in Photoshop)

Of course these are only guidelines and you are more than welcome to wear whatever you like!

If you are still unsure about what to wear, a quick search on Google or Pinterest never fails to give inspiration!
